We would always recommend that you talk to a dog trainer as they are the experts on this however you could try and simply walk backwards and say "Off" and reward and praise him when all four feet are on the ground. When you know that friends are coming to the house be ready and get the dog to sit when they come in the door and once again praise him for it.
